FIFA: Blatter argues for rebalancing, expanding and including more women in the Executive Committe

On the Executive Committee of FIFA, "the confederations must be proportionally represented according to the number of member associations they have," wrote Joseph Blatter, the president of the international federation, in his column published in the FIFA Weekly magazine on 19/06/2015.

"The fact that CAF, the African confederation boasting 54 members and the AFC, the Asian confederation with 46 members, only have five and four delegates respectively in the 25-person FIFA Executive is contradictory to this notion of democracy," added Blatter, thus referencing UEFA (53 members) which has eight representatives on the Executive Committee of the International Federation.

"In the same vein, we must ensure that women receive their rightful place in the Executive Committee," said the FIFA president. Of the 25 full members of the Executive Committee as of 19/06/2015, there is only one woman: Lydia Nsekera (Burundi), who was elected by the congress of FIFA.
