MLS: Larry Berg (Los Angeles FC) to succeed Don Garber as Commissioner in January 2027

Larry Berg has been named the next Major League Soccer Commissioner following a vote by the league’s Board of Governors at MLS headquarters in Manhattan (United States), the league announced on 3 August 2026.

The American, who has served as Co-Managing Owner of Los Angeles FC (MLS) since 2014 and Co-Chair of Major League Soccer’s Sporting and Competition Committee, will succeed Don Garber in January 2027 after the latter has served as Commissioner of the North American football league since 1999. As part of his appointment, Larry Berg will divest his ownership interest in LAFC.
