Paris Saint-Germain, winners of the last five editions of Ligue 1 McDonald's (from 2021-22 to 2025-26), will defend their title from Friday 21 August 2026, when the 2026-27 season kicks off with the Olympique de Marseille - RC Strasbourg Alsace opening match (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

Three Ligue 1 clubs have qualified directly for the league phase of the Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain, RC Lens (runners-up last season) and LOSC Lille (3rd). Olympique Lyonnais (4th) would join them if they win their play-off tie against Turkish side Fenerbahçe SK (1-1 in the first leg in Istanbul; return leg on 26 August at Groupama Stadium).
