Serie A: meeting aims to strengthen sports diplomacy between Italy and Western Australia

The “Calcio Italiano” friendly tournament bringing together four Italian clubs in Perth (see below) provided the backdrop for an economic and institutional diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening the partnership between Italy and the State of Western Australia, Lega Serie A announced on 6 August 2026.

"The presence in Perth of some of Serie A’s most prestigious clubs provided an opportunity to promote a broad programme of institutional and business meetings, in line with the strategy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use major sporting events as tools to promote the Italian model and create new opportunities for Italian companies," the Italian league said.
