SV Werder Bremen: Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, president since 2014, will not stand for re-election

"After 12 years at the helm of SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga), Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald has decided not to stand for re-election as president at the general meeting in November 2026," the German club announced on 10 August 2026.

Hubertus Hess-Grunewald was elected president of the SV Werder Bremen association (Sport-Verein) in November 2014, having served as vice-president since 2003. He has also held the position of chairman of the supervisory board of the club’s commercial entity (GmbH & Co KGaA) since March 2023, a role he will also step down from at the same time.
