LALIGA EA Sports: LALIGA "first national football competition" to use the connected ball from 2026-27

LALIGA will deploy the "Connected Ball" technology for LALIGA EA Sports matches from the 2026-27 season, becoming "the first national football competition to roll out this technology across all its matches," the Spanish league announced on 12 August 2026.

This initiative is being launched in collaboration with the Referees’ Technical Committee (CTA), Kinexon, a German company specialising in sports technology, and equipment supplier Puma, which has been the official ball supplier for all competitions organised by the Spanish professional league since the 2019-20 season. A radio-frequency sensor, support for refereeing decisions and additional match data are among the benefits provided by the connected ball, according to the league (see below).
