Josh Kushner, founder of the US venture capital firm Thrive Capital, and Bob Iger, former CEO of The Walt Disney Company, are acquiring the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA) from Mark Walter, chairman of the US investment fund TWG Global, ESPN reported on 12 August 2026, citing several sources familiar with the matter.

The transaction, which remains subject to approval by the NBA Board of Governors, is worth $12.5bn (€10.97bn), according to ESPN. It comes less than a year after Mark Walter completed the acquisition of a majority stake in the Lakers, valued at $10bn (€8.78bn), on 30 October 2025.

The ownership split between Josh Kushner, Bob Iger and any potential co-investors, as well as the role to be assumed by each, have not been specified. The expected timeline for completion of the…
