Sky Bet League One: complaint filed by the PFA (players’ union) over EFL’s new squad cost rules

"The PFA have begun High Court proceedings in relation to new wage restriction rules brought in by the EFL this (2026-27) season in Sky Bet League One," the English professional players’ union announced on 11 August 2026.

Under these new regulations, introduced by the EFL on 15 May 2026 and also applying to Sky Bet League Two, the wage bill is now capped at 50% of a club’s turnover, down from 60% previously, while the head coach’s salary must also be included in the calculation.
