"I invite amateur football and professional football to respond to the invitation that will be made to them to discuss this issue in late August or early September (2015). The unity of football must be maintained, and everyone will reflect on their best interests without unnecessary fighting between professionals (clubs) and amateurs (clubs)," stated Noël Le Graët, the president of the FFF, to the assembly of French football held in Nantes (FRA) on 20/06/2015, regarding the number of promotions and demotions between Ligue 2 and National (third division).

The board of the LFP has decided to reduce, beginning from 2016-17, the number of promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 and between Ligue 2 and the National from three teams to two, on 21/05/2015, but this measure -- especially in regards to the movement between Ligue 2 and the National -- was subject to the approval of the full French assembly, as the National division is organised and managed by the FFF.
