Germany: nearly 6.9 million licensed members in 2014-15 (+0.5%), new world record

The DFB counted 6,889,115 member football players in 2014-15, which is the highest total in its history, announced the German football federation on 19/06/2015. This number is up 0.5% (+37,223 members) from 2013-14.

"Football in Germany is more popular than ever. A lot of that has to do with our national team, who won the World Cup in Brazil last year. But our women’s and youth teams are also great role models, whilst the Bundesliga showcases German football on a weekly basis. On top of that, it also pays that we have enormous offerings at an amateur level, which allows us to support the massive commitment from volunteers," stated Wolfgang Niersbach, the DFB president, on 19/06/2015.

The DFB is the football federation which the most members worldwide. Despite this new world record of members, the German federation indicated that 25,513 clubs participated in their competitions in 2014-15, or 0.7% less than in 2013-14.
