Olympics: Paris is an official candidate to host the 2024 Summer Games

The City of Paris is officially bidding to host the Summer Olympic Games 2024, announced the association Ambition Olympique (Olympic Ambition), which will be managing the application, at a ceremony organised at the French Maison du Sport (House of Sport) in Paris (FRA) on 23/06/2015.

Paris will compete against Rome (ITA), the first city to formally announce its candidacy in December 2014, and Budapest (HUN), which also chose to announce its candidacy on 23/06/2015. The cities of Boston (USA) and Hamburg (GER) will consult their residents in a referendum before formalising their candidacies. The IOC will determine the vetted candidate cities in April or May 2016. The election of the host city by the members of the International Olympic Committee will be in Lima (Peru) in the summer of 2017.

If Paris wins, it will be the second time the city has hosted Summer Olympic Games in its history, exactly 100 years after the Paris Olympics in 1924, the 8^th Olympiad of the modern era. Paris had been a candidate for the last two editions of the Games: 2008 and 2012. The 2016 Games will be held…
