Spain: LaLiga wants to install centralised TV rights from 2015-16, Mediapro to market abroad rights

"LaLiga aims to put the wheels in motion of centralised commercialisation of television rights for the 2015-2016 season. As such, on Friday 19/06/2015, LaLiga announced to its clubs and SAD (sports limited companies) during a meeting being held in Villarreal (ESP) that an agreement had been reached with Mediapro Sports, in which the said company was chosen as the agency to undertake the commercialisation of the television rights for the upcoming seasons in the international market," stated LaLiga on 22/06/2015.

According to its official journal on 30/04/2015, the Spanish government enacted a royal decree which establishes the collective selling of domestic and international audiovisual rights of Spanish professional competitions from 2016-17. Along with Portugal, Spain is the only major European league where clubs directly negotiate their domestic audiovisual rights with broadcasters (since 1997-98).
