Liverpool FC (Premier League) are the club in the European Top 5 leagues to have spent the most on building their squad for 2026-27, with €1.226bn spent on transfer fees, according to the CIES Football Observatory in its “Weekly Post”, which presents the Top 100 teams according to the cost of assembling their squad for the current season, published on 9 September 2026.

Liverpool occupy first place in the ranking, which was topped by Chelsea FC in 2025-26 and 2024-25. They share the podium with two other English clubs: Manchester City FC (€1.209bn) and Tottenham Hotspur FC (€1.178bn). The top six places in the ranking are held by Premier League teams, with Chelsea FC, Manchester United FC and Arsenal FC in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.
