UEFA: new centralised VAR centre in Nyon (Switzerland) to support more than 220 matches per season

UEFA inaugurated its new VAR centre at its headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland) on Tuesday 8 September 2026, just a few hours before Matchday 1 of the league phase of the 2026-27 Champions League, notably in the presence of its president Aleksander Čeferin, deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti and director of refereeing Roberto Rosetti.

"Combining cutting-edge technology, greater operational efficiency and referee development in one centralised environment, the new VAR Centre will support clear decision-making and enhance the quality and consistency of officiating across UEFA competitions," the European confederation said. UEFA had decided to centralise VAR operations in Nyon for Euro 2020.
