Financial Fair Play: UEFA to appeal against Belgian court ruling and remains "fully confident"

"UEFA remains fully confident that Financial Fair Play is entirely in line with EU law, and that the European Court will in due course simply confirm this to be the case," said the European Confederation in a statement on 23/06/2015, stating that it will appeal a ruling by the Brussels Court of First Instance (BEL), which "bans UEFA from proceeding to the second phase of implementation of Financial Fair Play."

A "request for interim measures" had been lodged with the Court of First Instance in Brussels (BEL) by Jean-Louis Dupont (one of the lawyers behind the Bosman ruling on 15/12/1995) and his Belgian compatriot, Martin Hissel, against Financial Fair Play, on behalf of Daniel Striani (player agent) and a number of English, French and Belgian football supporters, on 10/10/2014. This request was intended to prohibit UEFA from proceeding with the second phase of the implementation of Financial Fair Play expected in 2015-16 (a maximum deficit of only €30m if fully implemented) and oblige UEFA to remain to the current deficit limit since 2013-14, which is up to €45m.
