Chelsea FC: Clearlake to take "full control" after acquiring Todd Boehly and Mark Walter stakes

Clearlake Capital Group, a US investment firm based in California, is set to acquire the stakes held by Todd Boehly (USA) and Mark Walter (USA) in Chelsea FC (Premier League) and will "therefore acquire full control of the club," Chelsea announced on 17 September 2026. Hansjörg Wyss (SUI), another member of the investor group that acquired the London club from Roman Abramovich (RUS) in May 2022 for £2.5bn (€2.92bn), will remain a shareholder.

Led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, Clearlake, which has more than $90bn in assets under management, held a 61.5% stake in Chelsea before the transaction, which is reported to value the club at £5bn (€5.8bn), according to English media. Todd Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss each held 12.8% of the remaining shares.
