FIFA: "It is absolutely essential that the Infantino system comes to an end" (Bernd Neuendorf, DFB)

"It is absolutely essential that the Infantino system at FIFA comes to an end," Bernd Neuendorf, president of the Deutscher Fussball Bund (DFB), told RTL Deutschland channel n-tv on 15 September 2026.

Neuendorf, relieved ("Thank God") by Gianni Infantino’s withdrawal on 1 August of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project presented four days earlier, also regretted that "we were not consulted about this in any way," despite being a member of the FIFA Council.

"The relationship of trust with Gianni Infantino, with this FIFA leadership, is obviously broken," the German added, thus aligning himself with the numerous European football associations (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, England, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, among others) that have officially announced they would not support the Swiss-Italian, who is standing for re-election as FIFA president for the four-year term from 2027 to 2031 (deadline for submitting candidacies: 18 November 2026). The vote will be on the agenda of the 77^th FIFA Congress, to be held in Rabat (MAR) on Thursday 18 March 2027.
