Germany: "The rise of certain political forces is an alarming result" (Werder Bremen)

"The significant gains made by political forces that exclude certain people, call diversity into question and pit social groups against one another are an alarming result of the regional elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin," SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga) said on 21 September 2026.

Werder were reacting to the results of the regional elections held on 20 September in the two German states.
• In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (1.6 million inhabitants), the far-right Alternative for Germany party (“Alternative für Deutschland”, AfD) won the largest share of the vote, with 38.2%;
• in Berlin (3.9 million inhabitants), the left-wing Die Linke party won 25.7% of the vote, while the AfD increased its share to 16.3%.
