Munich (Bavaria) has been selected as Germany’s candidate city to host the 2036, 2040 or 2044 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, the DOSB (Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund) announced on 26 September 2026. The extraordinary general assembly of the German Olympic Committee, meeting in Baden-Baden (Baden-Württemberg), selected the Munich bid, which secured 64.91% of the votes in the first round.

"Today is a good day for German sport. At the end of the national process, we have a very good candidate in Munich, whose concept has been the most convincing to German sport," Thomas Weikert, president of the DOSB, said.

Munich received 91 votes, compared with 50 for "KölnRheinRuhr" (Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr), the only other bid in contention following the official withdrawal of "Berlin +" on 24 September…
