Sunderland AFC (Barclays Premier League) want to develop an outdoor fan zone next to the Stadium of Light (48,353 seats), announced the club on 23/06/2015.

This fan zone will provide access to dining areas, outdoor bars, sheltered areas and a stage for music concerts and radio shows. A giant screen will broadcast match highlights and the historic matches of the club. A mini football field will also be installed. The fan zone will accommodate up to 6,000 fans and be staffed by fifty employees. The club is awaiting the approval of the City to put in place the fan zone at the south-east corner of the stadium. A meeting is scheduled for this purpose on 02/07/2015.

Sunderland AFC plan to open the area from three hours before the kick-off of matches, until one hour after the final whistle. The club hopes to increase fan "consumption time" and develop its matchday revenues. Sunderland generated €124.8m in turnover (including player trading) during the 2013-14 season, according to the 2015 Deloitte Football Money League.
