Italy: president of Calcio Catania and 6 others arrested for suspected match-fixing in the Serie B

After the bankruptcy of Parma FC on 22/06/2015, the situation of the 2015-16 Serie B is hampered even further by the investigation into possible match-fixing in 2014-15, led by the prosecution of the court in Catania (Sicily, ITA), who arrested seven persons in Sicily on 23/06/2015.

Antonino Pulvirenti, president of the Calcio Catania club (Serie B), was arrested on 23/06/2015, along with Pablo Cosentino, the CEO of the club, Daniele Delli Carri, the sporting director and four other people. All are suspected of match-fixing in relation to games at the of the end of the 2014-15 Serie B season.

"We believe that from the information gathered at least five matches, maybe six, have been rigged by paying players. There are other suspects, but we are not giving their names because we do not want them to be investigated by the press," stated Giovanni Salvi, the public prosecutor of the court in Catania, on 23/06/2015.
