FIFA / Gianni Infantino: "I think it is time to say enough" (Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA)

"My friends, I think it is time to say enough. Rules bent when inconvenient... Those meant to have a say simply cut out... And football’s future treated as just another bargaining chip... No office, no title and no amount of power gives anyone the right to sell the future of football," Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, said in his opening remarks at the 33^rd general assembly of European Football Clubs in Copenhagen (DEN) on 29 September 2026.

The Slovenian alluded to Gianni Infantino and FIFA governance without ever naming them, but listed what he criticised them for, notably the FIFA Forward Enterprise project presented without consultation on 28 July 2026 and abandoned four days later, as well as the FIFA Peace Prize awarded to Donald Trump, president of the United States, in December 2025. The statement was made in the absence of the FIFA president, but in the presence of Mattias Grafström (SWE-NED), secretary general of the world governing body.
