Former Switzerland international (23 caps) Ramon Vega announced his intention to stand in the FIFA presidential election "in order to reunite the global football family, deliver lasting reforms, modernise the organisation for the 21st century and restore its stability and credibility in order to rebuild the trust that football urgently needs," through an 11-page manifesto sent to several British media outlets on 7 October 2026.

Having played for Cagliari Calcio, Tottenham Hotspur FC and Celtic FC, among others, he founded the London-based asset management company Vega Swiss Asset Management after his career, before it was liquidated in 2020.
