Serie B: Catania at the centre of a match-fixing scandal; recently promoted Carpi FC also implicated

An investigation into possible match-fixing at Calcio Catania (Serie B) in 2014-15 has been conducted by the public prosecutor of Catania (Sicily) since 23/06/2015. Catania ended the 2014-15 season in 15th place in the Serie B (out of 22 teams), with 49 points, two points ahead of Modena in 18th place and the first club in the relegation play-off. The matches were allegedly fixed in order to keep Catania from being relegated to the Lega Pro (Italian third division).

Antonino Pulvirenti, the president of the Catania club, was arrested on 23/06/2015, as was Pablo Cosentino, the CEO of the club, Daniele Delli Carri, the former sporting director (who left the club on 26/05/2015) and four others. But the suspected matches also seem to involve Brescia Calcio (21st in the 2014-15 Serie B), FC Bari 1908 (10th), AS Cittadella (20th) and Carpi FC 1909, the 2014-15 champions of the Serie B who were promoted to the Serie A TIM for the first time in their history for 2015-16.
