FIFA: request for bail denied in Switzerland for "one of the officials" arrested on 27/05/2015

"One of FIFA officials detained pending extradition lodged a request for bail pending extradition. By decision of today, the Federal Criminal Court dismissed the appeal," announced the Swiss Federal Office of Justice on 26/06/2015. The identity of this official was not disclosed, but the person is thought to be, according to several sources, the Uruguayan Eugenio Figueredo, 83 years old, the former president of the Uruguayan Federation from 1997 to 2006 and FIFA vice-resident until the Congress of the international federation of 29/05/2015.

Seven senior officials in international football are the subject of a request for extradition to the United States since their arrest in Zurich (SUI) on 27/05/2015, the day before the opening of the FIFA Congress (28 and 29/05/2015), in which Joseph Blatter was re-elected for four years as president of the international federation. However, on 02/06/2015, Blatter announced he would "lay down his mandate", and requested the organisation of an extraordinary congress (between December 2015 and February 2016) to designate his successor.
