Canadian Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become a shareholder in Club Atlético de Madrid (LALIGA EA Sports), the club announced on 8 October 2026. Neither the amount of the investment nor the size of the stake acquired has been disclosed.

The deal comes seven months after the acquisition of the Spanish club by Apollo Sports Capital, the sports investment arm of the US investment fund Apollo Global Management, completed on 12 March 2026.

As part of this acquisition, Atlético de Madrid’s board of directors approved "an increase of equity and strategic capital of up to an additional €100m to support the club’s plans, including investment in Atlético de Madrid’s teams and in major infrastructure projects as part of Ciudad del Deporte," the future training…
