Euro 2016: UEFA approves the procedure for the draw for the finals (12/12/2015 in Paris)

At the draw for the finals of Euro 2016, on 12/12/2015 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris FRA), the 23 qualified teams will be divided into four pots (the host France's group is predetermined), said UEFA after the meeting of its Executive Committee in Prague (CZE) on 29 and 30/06/2015. Euro 2016 (from 10/06 to 10/07/2016 in France) is the first edition with 24 teams (16 in 2012).

"As it is automatically qualified as host nation, France, Team "A1", is not included in the pots," said UEFA. The five other seeded teams "including Spain (defending champion), if they qualify", will be placed in Pot 1. Pots 2, 3 and 4 will each include six teams.

"Starting with Pot 1, then going in order from the Pot 4 to Pot 2, each of the six groups in the final round (A to F) will consists of a team drawn at random from each pot," said UEFA. The two top teams in each group and the four best third placed teams will qualify for the knock-out phase.
