Bundesliga: DFL wants 2 new time slots, Sunday and Monday (for domestic TV rights from 2017 to 2021)

The DFL wants to introduce two new time slots and broadcast lots in the tender for the 2017-2021 domestic TV rights to the Bundesliga, according to the German specialised website Sponsors.de on 06/07/2015. The German Professional Football League confirmed this information from the DPA and SID news agencies, adding that these proposals are being considered by federal antitrust authorities.

These new broadcast slots concern 10 matches per season: five games on Sunday at 13:30 pm CET and five Monday evenings at 20:15 CET. The Bundesliga has never broadcast matches on Monday night, but Christian Seifert, the CEO of the DFL, had already raised this possibility on 19/03/2015. The German league justifies these two new broadcast slots by the need to better protect German teams competing in the European Cups.
