The City of Budapest (Hungary) is an official candidate to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, announced Zsolt Borka, the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, and Istvan Tarlos, the mayor of Budapest, in a letter to IOC president Thomas Bach on 07/07/2015.

This follows a vote of the Hungarian Parliament in favour of the candidacy of the city of Budapest to host the 2024 Olympic Games, which boasted a vast majority, with 151 votes in favour, 33 against (opposition members) and 4 abstentions on 06/07/2015. The Budapest City Council had already voted in favour of the project on 23/06/2015. Budapest expects the cost of the games to be up to €2.5bn, and will generate €3.5bn in revenues.
