China: Sina Sports acquires Premier League Internet broadcasting rights for 2015-16

The Chinese media company Sina Corporation has acquired additional rights to broadcast the Barclays Premier League for the 2015-16 season, on 10/07/2015. These rights relate to Sina Sports, the sports channel on the Internet and mobile platforms of the group.

Sina Sports will broadcast, for free, 230 of the 380 games of the 2015-16 Premier League season, while some of the 150 remaining games will be available in pay format (some games will be broadcast exclusively on the pay platform SuperSports, the holder and the distributor of the Internet and mobile rights of the Premier League in China and Macao during the 2013-2019 cycle).

Tencent, Sina Corporation's main competitor in the Chinese Internet market, also announced, on 10/07/2015, that it has acquired additional rights to broadcast the Barclays Premier League for the 2015-16 season. Chinese media expect Tencent to receive a similar offer to that of Sina Sports.
