After Discovery's 100% takeover of Eurosport, and the group's €1.3bn acquisition of Olympic TV rights in Europe for 2018-2014), "we really can say this is a new company. We’re going to transform the business and turn it into a must-have sports channel across Europe," stated Peter Hutton, the CEO of Eurosport since March 2015, to News Tank Football on 03/08/2015.

Discovery Communications completed the full acquisition of Eurosport on on 22/07/2015, after it began buying shares of the group from the French audiovisual group TF1 in late 2012.

"(Eurosport is now) a different business where we are taking what is a fantastic tradition, and investing behind that in terms of content, infrastructure and people to turn it into a different size company and one that has more relevance to viewers across Europe," added Peter Hutton, who also indicated that football could play a larger role in Eurosport's rights portfolio going forward.
