Australia: SBS acquires free-to-air rights to the Champions League (2015-2018) from beIN Sports

The Australian public broadcaster SBS acquired the free-to-air broadcast rights, in Australia, to the Champions League for the 2015-2018 cycle, on 25/07/2015.

The rights were acquired under sublicense from the pay-TV group beIN Sports Australia, the holder of the rights of the 2015-2018 Champions League for all broadcast platforms across the Oceania region since 07/07/2015.

SBS will broadcast one match live and free-to-air on Wednesday, during each week of competition, as well as a oen hour programme, the next day, with summaries of the week's matches. The Australian public broadcaster has broadcast the Champions League in Australia since the launch of the competition in 1992.

Other football TV rights held by SBS:

  • Hyundai A-League: one game per matchday, until the end of the 2017 season
  • 2018 (Russia) and 2022 (Qatar) World Cups
  • Matches of the Australian national team for the qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup
