FIFA: "Michel Platini has our full support" (W. Niersbach, president of the German Federation)

"As president of UEFA, Michel Platini showed he was capable of running a large organisation. I can assure you that he has our full support. He knows football in all its facets, and has never lost his enthusiasm. The objective is to rapidly implement the reforms needed at FIFA. Michel Platini can not, however, achieve these objectives alone. I will gladly support him with all my strength in the FIFA Executive Committee," stated Wolfgang Niersbach, president of the DFB and member of the FIFA Executive Committee, on 29/07/2015.

Michel Platini officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of FIFA on 29/07/2015. The special elective Congress which will nominate the successor to Joseph Blatter (SUI), president since 08/06/1998, will be held on 26/02/2016 in Zurich (SUI). The deadline for candidates to submit applications is 26/10/2015.

"The awarding of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar marks a point of disagreement between us, but it does not detract from the good relationship we have," added Wolfgang Niersbach, about Michel Platini, on the website of the German Federation.
