Spain: Telefónica sells sublicense to Vodafone and Orange for 2015-16 Liga BBVA and Copa del Rey

The Vodafone and Orange groups acquired a telecommunications sublicense from their counterpart Telefónica for the full, non-exclusive broadcast rights for their pay-TV platforms, in Spain, for matches of the 2015-16 Liga BBVA and the Copa del Rey, on 29/07/2015. The two groups made the acquisition for €100m, according to the Spanish press on 29/07/2015.

Vodafone will provide access to matches in the Liga BBVA and the Copa del Rey (from the Round of 32) to offer to Vodafone One customers (fibre optic Internet, Vodafone TV, landline and mobile phone subscription, all for €37.60 per month). Orange TV customers (from €33.56 per month) will have access to the same content for an additional €9.95 each month.

Telefónica acquired the exclusive 2015-16 domestic audiovisual rights from LaLiga on 10/07/2015, for €600m. The agreement covers all domestic TV rights to the Liga BBVA, the Liga Adelante and all pay-TV rights for the Copa del Rey.

The deal would end the legal action taken by Vodafone and Orange against Telefónica
