CONMEBOL: Implementation of a reform and modernisation program to improve transparency

"The Executive Committee of CONMEBOL, in its meeting on 24/07/2015 in the city of St. Petersburg (RUS), has approved the implementation of a new Compliance and Enforcement Program for the Confederacy, according to indications of its international advisory experts in this area," announced the South American confederation on 29/07/2015.

Three members or former members of CONMEBOL were among the seven senior officials in international football who are the subject of a request for extradition to the United States since their arrest in Zurich (SUI) on 27/05/2015, the day before the opening of the FIFA Congress (28 and 29/05/2015), in which Joseph Blatter was re-elected for four years as president of the international federation. The seven leaders are among 14 people indicted on 27/05/2015 by the federal court in Brooklyn (New York, USA) and accused of "racketeering, financial fraud and money laundering, among other offenses, in the context of cases from the last 24 years aiming to enrich themselves through corruption in international football".
