FIFA: Chung Mong-joon will officially announce his candidacy for the presidency on 17/08/2015

South Korean Chung Mong-joon, former chairman of the KFA (1993-2009) and former vice-president of FIFA (1994-2011), will officially announce his candidacy for election to the FIFA presidency in Paris (FRA) on 17/08/2015.

Chung Mong-joon announced his willingness to run for the presidency of FIFA on 30/07/2015. He said, during a press conference in Seoul (KOR) on 06/08/2015, that he had chosen to announce his candidacy in the French capital, "the city where FIFA was created 1904".

"I believe (Michel) Platini and I are the leading candidates. I think I have a good chance of winning. I don't think it will be easy for a South Korean to run for FIFA presidency, but I think this is more than worth the effort, and I will do the best I can," said Chung Mong-joon on 06/08/2015. FIFA has had eight presidents in its history and seven of them have been Europeans, with Joao Havelange of Brazil as the lone exception.
