FIFA: "Platini has the qualities to be a great president" (J. A. Napout, president of CONMEBOL)

"We believe that Michel Platini has all the necessary qualities to be a great president (of FIFA). This is an exceptional man, a man who will do much for the good of football. Just look at his record as the head of UEFA," stated the Paraguayan Juan Angel Napout, the president of CONMEBOL, on 06/08/2015.

Michel Platini, president of UEFA since 2007, announced his candidacy for the presidency of the FIFA on 29/07/2015. These elections will be held during an extraordinary FIFA Congress held in Zurich (SUI) on 26/02/2016. This date was set by the FIFA Executive Committee on 20/07/2015. The deadline for submission of candidate applications: 26/10/2015.

A candidate for the office of FIFA president is only valid if the person is supported by at least five FIFA member associations. Four members of CONMEBOL federations (which has 10 in total) have already announced their individual support to Michel Platini: the Chilean, Paraguayan Uruguayan and Colombian federations. The Brazilian federation, meanwhile, said it will support the candidacy of the former Brazilian international Zico.
