France: 18 Ligue 1 clubs resign from pro club union, now to form their own union without Ligue 2

All clubs of of the 2015-16 Ligue 1, with the exception of the EA Guingamp and Stade Rennais FC, resign, effective "immediately" from the UCPF (French union of professional football clubs) "together to found a new union association", on 11/08/2015. "Ligue 1 wants the freedom to implement the reforms necessary for the development of French professional football," explained the presidents of the 18 clubs which resigned from the UCPF in a statement procured by News Tank Football, on 11/08/2015.

These 18 clubs, "representing the absolute majority of professional football in France", have made this decision two days before the judgment of the French Council of State regarding the application for interim measures introduced by the French LFP on 23/07/2015, against the decision of the FFF Executive Committee of the same day, to cancel the implementation, from three movements to two, the number of promotions and demotions between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 from the 2015-16 season. This measure was approved by the board of the LFP twice, first on 21/05/2015, and then again on 09/07/2015.
