France: Council of State judge maintains 3 promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2

French Council of State judge Fabien Raynaud has rejected "for lack of urgency" the application for interim measures of the French LFP and 18 Ligue 1 clubs, and therefore maintains the principle of the three promotions / relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for the 2015-16 season on 14/08/2015.

The board of the LFP had twice (on 21/05/2015 and the 09/07/2015) voted to reduce the number of promotions / relegations to two movements (instead of three) between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 from the 2015-16 season, instead of implementing this new system in 2016-17. The FFF Executive Committee had annulled the decision of the French League on 23/07/2015, on behalf of the "best interests of French football". The LFP and 18 Ligue 1 clubs had, the next day, appealed for an interim suspension of the FFF's annulment to the French Council of State.

The decision of the judge is only temporary, and it does not lift the uncertainty concerning the number of promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 effective at the end of the 2015-16 season. Only the decision of the judge on the merits of…
