Liga BBVA: Barcelona changed the surface of the Camp Nou, still opting for natural grass

Work to replace the entire Camp Nou pitch (FC Barcelona, 99,350 places) took place from 18 to 22/08/2015, announced FC Barcelona (Liga BBVA).

"Unlike in other seasons, the operation was a simple case of replacing the grass with the new turf. It was simply a procedure to improve the substrate with specific products and lay new turf that came from the Landes region, in Bordeaux (FRA)," stated FC Barcelona.

FC Barcelona decided to retain a 100% natural grass pitch, unlike two other Spanish clubs, Real Madrid CF and Villarreal CF, who opted for a hybrid pitch when changing their playing surfaces for the 2015 season, becoming the first Liga BBVA clubs to use this type of pitch.

The Camp Nou pitch will be completely replaced in 2017

  • Work to lay the new turf began the day after the Spanish Super Cup second leg against Athletic Club Bilbao (1-1, 1-5 on aggregate), which was played on 17/08/2015.
  • The match between FC Barcelona - Málaga CF (Matchday 2 of the 2015-16 season) will be the first played on the new pitch, on 29/08/2015.
