"The elections could be manipulated to a degree unseen even in previous notorious FIFA presidential elections," said the South Korean Chung Mong-joon, a FIFA presidential candidate, on 25/08/2015.

The German daily Die Welt reported on 23/08/2015 that the investigatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee are alleged to have recommended a ban on performing any activity in football for 15 years against Chung Mong-joon, the former chairman of the KFA (South Korean Football Association, from 1993-2009) and former FIFA vice-president (1994-2011). The South Korean had, according to the German daily newspaper who cited no official sources, tried to influence the vote to award the 2022 World Cup to South Korea, who eventually finished third in the voting behind Qatar and the United States on 02/12/2010.

Chung Mong-joon had proposed, according to Die Welt, the creation of an international fund for football and the participation of South Korea in various projects around the world to the tune of $777m until 2022, provided that the 22nd World Cup be awarded to South Korea. However Jerome…
