"Michel Platini has been positioning himself as a reformer, but how can that be? How can someone claim to be free or not tainted when he has been part of the circle that has basically brought football down a sorry path?" said David Nakhid (TRI), a candidate for the presidency of FIFA, on 26/08/2015.

David Nakhid (51 years old), a former Trinidadian International, announced his intention to be a candidate for the presidency of FIFA on 12/08/2015. He currently heads the "David Nakhid International Football Academy", an academy for young players in Lebanon. Nakhid received the support of the Antiguan Gordon Derrick, president of the CFU (the Caribbean Football Union, comprising 25 Caribbean member federations of FIFA), on 23/05/2015.

David Nakhid, who has never held a position in an international body, has highlighted his independence regarding FIFA as a major element of his candidacy.
