The extension to the Main Stand at Anfield (45,500 seats) will be installed in the coming days, announced Liverpool FC (Premier League) on 08/09/2015. The extension, which is currently being constructed separately from the Main Stand will increase its capacity from 12,500 to 21,000 seats. The stand will have three tiers and will host the memorial for the victims of Hillsborough.

The expansion will increase the total capacity of the stadium to 54,000 seats. The club plans to complete this first phase of work during the 2016-17 season. The team will continue to play at the stadium during the renovation. A second phase of work, the start date of which has yet to be announced, will increase the stadium capacity to 58,800 seats.

Liverpool FC hope to increase their matchday income with this renovation. The club generated £50.9m (€70m) in matchday revenue during the 2013-14 season.
