"Let me be clear. I want to finish what we started. Ten months ago, I was the only person who dared to challenge Mr. Blatter for the Presidency of FIFA. I ran because I believe that FIFA needs change. And I had the courage to fight for change when others were afraid," said Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, at a press conference in Amman (JOR) on 09/09/2015, to announce his decision to once again run for the FIFA presidency.

Ali Bin Al Hussein, a former vice-president of FIFA, was the sole opponent of Joseph Blatter (SUI) in the previous election, on 29/05/2015. The Swiss was re-elected for a fifth term (the 2015-2019 period), after obtaining 133 votes out of 206 in the first round of voting (64.5%, less than the two-thirds majority required for victory in the first voting round), at which point Prince Ali dropped out before the second round (where a simple majority suffices). Joseph Blatter announced on 02/06/2015 that he would "lay down my mandate" at an extraordinary FIFA Congress to elect his successor.
