Rugby: Tissot become the official timekeeper of the 2015 Rugby World Cup

The Swiss watch brand Tissot has become the official timekeeper of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, announced World Rugby on 11/09/2015. The partnership was announced just seven days before the start of the competition organised in England from 18/09 to 31/10/2015.

"This tournament is the perfect platform to showcase our expertise in a thrilling international environment," said François Thiébaud, the president of Tissot. The commercial success of the 2011 tournament in New Zealand and the 2015 edition in England should allow the redistribution of £350m (€475m) for the development of the game in more than 120 countries, announced World Rugby.

  • The Rugby World Cup 2015 in England could net £982m (€1.2bn) for the British economy, according to a study by the audit firm EY conducted for the local organising committee of the competition, published on 18/11/2014.
    • The World Cup, which will be played in 13 stadiums, could attract 466,000 tourists from all over the globe, suggested EY.
    • The expected expenditure of these tourists during the World Cup is estimated at €488m.
