Copa America 2016: CONCACAF and CONMEBOL to meet on 17/09/2015 to discuss location of the tournament

"Representatives of CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, led by its president Mr. Alfredo Hawit will meet on 17/09/2015 in Mexico City (MEX) to jointly discuss the organisation of the Copa America Centenario, to be held in 2016. Both institutions have the firm intention of carrying out the tournament in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the South American Football Confederation to be celebrated on 09/07/2016," CONMEBOL announced on 10/09/2015.

The "Copa America Centenario 2016" is a special edition of the Copa America (South American continental cup), to celebrate the 100th anniversary of CONMEBOL and the competition itself. It will be contested by the 10 national teams from CONMEBOL and as well as six national teams from CONCACAF, from 03 to 26/06/2016.

The announcement of the American host cities for the competition should have taken place in May 2015, but was not carried out because of the scandal that hit the two confederations and FIFA, in the same month.
