20 of the 32 clubs (62.5%) in the group stage of the 2015-16 Champions League, which began on Tuesday, 15/09/2015, participated in the group stage of the 2014-15 edition of the competition. 11 of these 20 clubs, including Paris St Germain FC, are from the Top 5 European Leagues (Premier League, Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1).

11 of the 32 clubs in the 2015-16 competition, or 34.3% of the total, are competing in the group stage for at least the fifth consecutive year. The five clubs with the most consecutive appearances in the group stage of the competition are all Spanish, German or English:
