Los Angeles FC, the new MLS franchise, has formalised its name and will enter the league in 2018, the club announced on 15/09/2015. "The club determined the official name after months of engagement with supporters, partners, stakeholders and founding season ticket members," said the club, on 15/09/2015.

The franchise has also launched a campaign on social networks offering fans of the team to choose the future colours of the club on Twitter. The campaign will end on 18/09/2015 and investors will announce their decision in the coming months.

The entrance of the franchise into MLS was initially planned to take place in 2017 but the demolition of the Los Angeles Sports Arena and construction of the new stadium postponed the entry of the future franchise until 2018. The franchise infrastructure project is estimated at $250m (approximately €220m). Los Angeles FC will replace the Chivas USA franchise, which was dissolved by MLS on 27/10/2014.
