72% of transfers in the Top 5 European leagues were made within the Top 5 itself, according to CIES

The 98 clubs in the Top 5 European leagues (Premier League, Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1) spent €3.292bn during the 2015 summer transfer market, according to the Big 5 Weekly Post of the CIES Football Observatory, published on 21/09/2015. This amount is 31.8% higher than the money invested in the 2014 season (based on €2.507bn spent in 2014 and €3.305bn in 2015, figures published in the previous CIES Big 5 Weekly Post, on 14/09/2015).

Nearly 72% of transfer expenditures in the Top 5 league (or €2.360bn) were paid to other clubs in the Top 5 during the 2015 season; this share is 4 percent higher than the average amount in the previous summer markets from 2010-2015 (68%).

€1.145bn, or nearly 35% of the total, was invested by clubs in the Top 5 with clubs in their own league, while the remaining €1.215bn (37%) was invested with the other four leagues in the Top 5.

In descending order, the Top 5 clubs invested:
• €591m (18%) in European leagues outside of the Top 5
