FIFA: Switzerland authorise the extradition of Eduardo Li (Costa Rica) to the USA

"The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) has approved the extradition of Eduardo Li to the USA. The Costa Rican citizen has 30 days in which to appeal to the Swiss Federal Criminal Court against the FOJ's ruling," said the FOJ, on 29/09/2015.

Eduardo Li (54 years old), the former president of the Costa Rican Federation and member of the Executive Committee of CONMEBOL, is one of the seven leaders arrested in Zurich (SUI) on 27/05/2015 with a view to extradition to United States. "Eduardo Li is accused of taking bribes in connection with the sale of marketing rights for World Cup 2018 qualifiers to a US sports marketing company," said the FOJ.

Eduardo Li is the third of the six leaders arrested on 27/05/2015 who had initially refused to be extradited (Jeffrey Webb, former president of CONCACAF, had accepted his extradition), for whom Switzerland will provide extradition to the United States. The first two were Eugenio Figueredo (URU, 83 years old), former vice president of CONMEBOL and outgoing vice president of FIFA, whose extradition was authorised on 17/09/2015, and Rafael Esquivel…
